Drew University 5, Delaware Valley 3
DOYLESTOWN (PA) - Drew University and Delaware Valley College
combined for seven goals in a wild first half as the visiting Rangers
posted a 5-3, Freedom Conference victory to spoil Delaware Valley's
Senior Day.
Drew improved to 11-3 overall and 4-0 in the Freedom Conference
as the defending conference champions remained in first place with
the victory. The Aggies fell to 5-12 overall and 1-4 in conference
play. It was the final home game for Delaware Valley seniors Dyanna
Capuano and Leigh Stiffler.
The Rangers started the action-packed first half as Kara Fetter
scored off an assist from Colleen Mahon just 52 seconds into the
contest. Delaware Valley tied the contest with 28:38 to go in the
first half as Kristin Cottman took a feed from fellow sophomore
Kelly Geissler and beat Drew goalkeeper Tara Connelly.
However, the Rangers came right back and scored three times for
a 4-1 advantage. Casey Rogers started the barrage off an assist
from Kara Fetter just 2:31 after Cottman's tally. Mahon then notched
back-to-back goals with Fetter assisting on the first goal.
Cottman scored her second goal of the game and fourth of the season
to pull the Aggies to within two with 13:23 to go before halftime.
Junior Sara Astbury was credited with the assist. However, Kristen
Scurpa scored six minutes later to give Drew a 5-2 halftime lead.
Astbury scored the lone goal of the second half off an assist from
freshman Natalie Stannard. It was Astbury's fifth goal of the year.
Stiffler finished the day with 19 saves for Delaware Valley.
