Delaware Valley College 76, McDaniel
College 68
DOYLESTOWN (PA) - Delaware Valley College led from start to finish
and reached the .500 mark on the season with a 76-68 victory over
visiting McDaniel College in a non-conference game.
The Aggies are 4-4 with one game remaining in the first semester
- a trip to Ursinus College on December 19. The Green Terror, which
captured the Centennial Conference championship a season ago, fell
to .500 as they are also 4-4 on the year.
Delaware Valley, behind eight points from senior guard Donohue,
jumped out to a 12-4 lead in the first five minutes of the contest.
Later in the half, McDaniel pulled to within two at 18-16, but the
Aggies scored seven straight to up the lead back to nine, 25-16,
with 6:33 remaining in the half and they eventually took a 34-31
advantage into the intermission.
Delaware Valley opened the second stanza with a 7-0 run, including
five by freshman guard Brittany Battinieri, to take its largest
lead of the game at 41-31. The Aggies had a 10-point lead on two
other occasions in the half, but the Green Terror remained within
striking distance and made it a three-point game, 66-63, as Courtney
Gogolinski drained a jumper with 3:26 remaining. Delaware Valley
answered with a pair of free throws by both Jen McCarthy and Kim
Vennera and a layup from Donohue to ice the contest.
Donohue scored 22 points to lead all scorers while Battinieri tied
a career high with 19 points, including a trio of 3-pointers. Vennera
notched 11 points, eight rebounds and five assists while senior
center Brooke Dittmar added eight points and a game-high 13 rebounds.
Kim Staub paced McDaniel with 12 points while Robbin Gregg added
11 points and six assists. Danny Fraider came off the bench to notch
nine points and six rebounds in the loss.
