Donohue Reaches 1,000-Point Plateau
DOYLESTOWN (PA) - Moira Donohue reached the 1,000-point milestone,
but fellow senior Brooke Dittmar stole the show with career highs
of 21 points and 16 rebounds as Delaware Valley College downed previously
unbeaten Marywood University, 68-64, in a non-conference game.
The win lifted the Aggies to 3-4 on the season and they have one
game remaining in the first semester with next Sunday's home contest
against McDaniel College. The Pacers, who were off to their best
start in program history, suffered their first loss in seven contests.
Donohue, the team's leading scorer with 17.3 points per game, needed
just seven points to become the 10th player in Delaware Valley women's
basketball history to reach the coveted milestone. She did just
that as her 3-pointer with 1:32 remaining in the first half gave
the senior guard her 1,000th-point and the Aggies a 36-32 advantage.
Donohue was held scoreless in the second half and finished the night
with the seven points as well as a game-high six points.
Dittmar was dominant inside as the senior hit eight of 13 shots
from the field and was 5-for-9 from the foul line for her 21-point
evening. Six of her rebounds came on the offensive end and she also
added one block and one steals in 34 minutes of action.
Delaware Valley never trailed in the contest and took a 34-28 lead
into the break. Marywood tied the contest at 34-34 in the opening
minutes of the second stanza, but the Aggies responded with 10 straight
points, including a pair of treys from freshman Brittany Battinieri,
to give them the lead for good. Battinieri finished the night with
16 points, including four 3-pointers.
However, the Pacers did not go away quietly. Down 62-55, they scored
six straight points capped by Bryanne Unger's 3-pointer with 31
ticks remaining to make it a one-point ballgame. Battinieri was
fouled three seconds later and calmly hit both foul shots to make
it 64-61. Marywood turned the ball over on its next possessionn
and the Aggies' Kim Vennera was fouled. She hit a pair of free throws
for a six-point lead and later hit two more from the charity stripe
for a 68-61 advantage. Unger hit three free throws for Marywood
with three seconds left for the 68-64 final.
Amanda Lass led the Pacers with 14 points while Unger and Lizzy
Green added 13. Stephanie Fusaro also reached double figures with
11 points in the loss.
