Delaware Valley College 92, Lancaster Bible
College 49
DOYLESTOWN (PA) - Delaware Valley College scored 56 points in the
first half as the host Aggies routed Lancaster Bible College, 92-49,
in a non-conference game.
Delaware Valley (12-11) had the bye in the seven-team Freedom Conference
on Saturday but it was closely watching the scoreboard. FDU-Florham's
loss to DeSales and King's win over Manhattanville created a three-way
tie for second place with FDU-Florham, King's and the Aggies each
holding a 6-4 league mark.
Arcadia's upset loss to Wilkes dropped them to 4-6, meaning that
Delaware Valley can clinch a playoff berth on Tuesday evening, February
19 with either a win over FDU-Florham or an Arcadia loss at DeSales.
It would be the team's sixth Freedom postseason bid in the last
eight years.
The Aggies trailed just once in the game at 3-2, but they quickly
erased that with 21 straight points and a 23-3 advantage with 12:30
remaining. Freshman guard Brittany Battinieri paced the run with
10 points.
Delaware Valley then used a 21-3 run after the Chargers (5-17) pulled
to within 16 to take a 50-16 lead. The Aggies eventually took a
56-21 advantage into the intermission and the lead went as high
as 47 in the second half.
All 10 healthy players played at least 14 minutes for the Aggies.
Battinieri connected on five treys and finished with 21 points -
all in the first half. She also added five rebounds, five steals
and four assists. Fellow rookie Rochelle Teesdale notched career
highs of 16 points and seven boards.
Moira Donohue drained three from beyond the arc and finished the
afternoon with 15 points. The senior guard now has 180 career treys
and is just three shy of breaking the school's all-time record of
182 held by 1995 graduate Kate Monahan. Donohue is also closing
in on the single-season mark as her 67 treys is six shy of topping
All-American Alisa DiBonaventura's total from the 2000-01 campaign.
Senior center Brooke Dittmar notched a double-double with 11 points
and 11 rebounds in just 16 minutes of action while her backup, Mandi
Wilson, poured in 11 points.
Lancaster Bible was led by Lacy McClaine's 19 points. Meredith Washington
added nine points and nine boards in the loss.
