Aggies Clinch Playoff Berth, Donohue Breaks Career 3-Point Record
DOYLESTOWN (PA) - Moira Donohue became Delaware Valley College's
all-time leader in 3-pointers and the Aggies clinched a Freedom
Conference playoff berth with a 67-56 home victory over FDU-Florham.
With the win, Delaware Valley improved to 13-11 overall, 7-4 and
tied with King's College for second place in the Freedom. Those
teams meet in Wilkes-Barre on Saturday with the winner clinching
a home playoff game. The loser will finish in either the third and
fourth spot depending on how FDU-Florham (15-9, 6-5) fares at home
on Saturday against Wilkes. The conference playoff berth is the
sixth for the Aggies in the last eight years.
Donohue's last regular-season game at home was a memorable one for
the senior guard as her trey with 7:03 remaining was the 183rd of
her career, breaking the 1995 graduate Kate Monahan's record. Donohue
hit a trio of 3-pointers in the game to up her season total to 70
and just three shy of breaking All-American Alisa DiBonaventura's
record from the 2000-01 campaign. She finished the evening with
16 points, six rebounds and four assists.
Delaware Valley led from start to finish, including a 31-16 advantage
at the break as they held FDU-Florham to 25 percent shooting from
the field in the first 20 minutes. The Devils scored the first bucket
of the second half, but the Aggies scored 11 of the next 13, including
five by Donohue, to take a 42-20 lead with 14:58 remaining. FDU-Florham
got as close as 10 on two occasions, both in the final minutes of
the contest.
In addition to Donohue, seniors Jen McCarthy and Brooke Dittmar
had big outings in their final home regular-season contest. McCarthy
netted a career-high 14 points while Dittmar had eight points and
13 boards and moved into seventh place on the school's all-time
rebounding list (593). Freshman Brittany Battinieri also hit double
digits with 15 points.
Emily Cerankowski paced FDU-Florham with 15 points while Kate Daly,
Shealyn Taggart and Courtney Young notched nine points apiece. Taggart
also grabbed 13 rebounds.
