Delaware Valley College 71, Arcadia University 51

DOYLESTOWN (PA) - Delaware Valley College went on a 16-0 run late in the game as the Aggies pulled away to a 71-51 victory over visiting Arcadia University in a Freedom Conference game.

The win was the second straight for Delaware Valley as it improved to 6-8 overall and 2-1 in the conference. The Knights fell to 3-10 and 1-2.

The Aggies led for most of the contest, but Arcadia made it a three-point ballgame, 51-48, as Caitlin Sparks hit an inside shot with 6:45 remaining. Brittany Battinieri followed with a jumper for Delaware Valley and Sparks hit one of two free throws for a 53-49 ballgame with 5:44 to go.

It was all Aggies from that point as senior center Brooke Dittmar scored on putbacks on consecutive possessions. She was fouled on the second basket and converted the free throw for a 58-49 advantage. Three straight Knight turnovers led to a pair of layups by Kim Vennera with a Battinieri trey in-between. The run continued with a Rochelle Teesdale free throw and a Moira Donohue 3-pointer to complete the 16-0 run and a 69-49 Delaware Valley lead with 1:10 left on the clock.

In the first half, the Aggies held a 15-12 lead before they drilled 3-pointers on four consecutive trips down the court. Arcadia managed just one basket during that span as Delaware Valley upped its lead to 27-14 with 6:45 to go before the intermission. The Aggies eventually took a 33-24 advantage into the break. The Knights stayed within striking range until Delaware Valley put the contest away with the late spurt.

Vennera, the reigning Freedom Conference Player of the Week, notched team highs of 23 points, eight rebounds, five assists and four steals. Donohue finished with 18 points and moved into eighth place on the school's all-time list with 1,112 points. Battinieri contributed 14 points while Dittmar ended the night with nine points and eight boards.

Sparks paced Arcadia with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Anna Feindt came off the bench to score 12 points while Stephanie Bates finished with seven points, nine rebounds, five assists and six steals.
