Joyce Reaches 1,000-Point Plateau
DOYLESTOWN (PA) - Senior forward Rachel Joyce became just the ninth
player in Delaware Valley College women's basketball history to
reach the 1,000-point plateau as she led the Aggies to an 86-66
victory over visiting Wilkes University in a Freedom Conference
game.
The win snapped a three-game losing streak for Delaware Valley
as it improved to 2-3 overall and 1-1 in conference play. The Lady
Colonels fell to 3-2 overall and 1-1 in the Freedom.
Joyce came into the afternoon needing 10 points to reach the milestone.
She scored a two-point basket in the opening two minutes and remained
at that total until there was 6:36 to go in the half. She followed
with five points in the next three minutes and then drained a 3-pointer
with 1:28 remaining in the half to hit the plateau.
Meanwhile, the Aggies used a 12-0 lead early in the first half
to build a 16-5 lead. The lead reached as many as 14 points before
they took a 43-31 advantage into the intermission. Delaware Valley
then scored the first 11 points of the second stanza, including
six by Joyce, and never looked back.
Joyce tied for game-high honors with 17 points in just 23 minutes
of action. She also grabbed three rebounds to move into fifth place
on the school's all-time list with 605 boards.
Freshman Kim Vennera contributed 14 points and eight rebounds while
junior Brooke Dittmar was 6-for-7 from the field and finished with
12 points. The backcourt tandem of juniors Moira Donohue and Shannon
O'Neill combined for 20 points, 12 rebounds and 15 assists.
