2006 TRIP SPORTS SURF CITY CLASSIC
St. Lawrence University 65, Delaware Valley College 57
COSTA MESA (CA) - St. Lawrence University scored 11 straight points
to break a 46-46 tie and the Saints went on to a 65-57 victory over
Delaware Valley College at the 2006 Trip Sports Surf City Classic
held at Vanguard University.
The loss dropped the Aggies to 3-5 on the season and they have
one game remaining on their trip to California. They will take on
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) at 12:00 local time (3:00
p.m. EST) on Saturday. St. Lawrence, out of Canton, New York, improved
to 8-1 with the victory.
Delaware Valley trailed for most of the contest, including s 28-17
deficit at halftime as the Aggies hit just 5 of 25 shots from the
field (20.0 %) in the first 20 minutes. They were still down 32-24
three minutes into the second stanza, but went on a 12-4 run, capped
by Shannon O'Neill's 3-pointer, to tie the game at 36-36 with 11:15
remaining.
St. Lawrence went back into the lead before Kim Vennera's layup
with 6:28 left on the clock tied things up at 46-46. However, Jamie
Wolff hit back-to-back treys to ignite the 11-0 run that put the
Saints in the lead for good. Delaware Valley never got closer than
six points the rest of the way.
Vennera finished with 13 points, nine rebounds and six steals to
pace the Aggies. Rachel Joyce added 12 points and eight boards while
Brooke Dittmar had 10 points and six boards. O'Neill, Moira Donohue,
Stephanie Fanto finished with seven points apiece.
Kimberly Sikule notched game highs of 19 points and 11 rebounds
for St. Lawrence. Wolff finished with 14 points and six assists,
including a 4-for-8 effort from 3-point land.
