SCOTTY WOOD TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONSHIP
Muhlenberg College 87, Delaware Valley College 70

ALLENTOWN (PA) - Muhlenberg College shot 54.5 percent from the field in the second half as the host Mules captured the Scotty Wood Tournament championship with an 87-70 victory over visiting Delaware Valley College.

The Aggies (1-1) entered the night searching for their fourth straight tip-off tournament title (2003 at Cabrini, 2004 at Frostburg and 2005 at Lebanon Valley). However, Emily Wright and her Muhlenberg teammates denied that as the tournament MVP scored 22 points on 7-for-10 shooting from the field, including a 4-for-6 effort from 3-point land.

Delaware Valley juniors Moira Donohue and Shannon O'Neill were named to the all-tournament team as the backcourt tandem paced the Aggies once again. Just one day after scoring 25 points apiece, the two combined for 44 points, 17 rebounds and seven assists in the final. Donohue finished with a game-high 24 points to go along with 10 rebounds while O'Neill tallied 20 points, seven boards and four assists.

The Aggies, behind nine points from senior Rachel Joyce, jumped out to a 17-9 lead in the first six minutes of the contest. They still held a nine-point advantage, 26-17, with 8:27 left in the half before Muhlenberg scored 11 straight to take the lead. The Mules eventually took a 35-33 lead into the intermission.

The Mules opened the second half with an 11-2 spurt, keyed by Wright's five points, to build a 46-35 score. It stayed around double figures for most of the half, but Delaware Valley made a final run and pulled to within, 67-63, with 5:28 to go following a pair of free throws by Donohue. However, Muhlenberg countered with 13 of the next 16 points to seal the game.

Joyce joined Donohue and O'Neill in double figures as she finished with 16 points. Lauren Boyle and Meghan Courtney scored 19 and 16 points respectively for the Mules as they earned spots on the all-tournament team.
