Delaware Valley College 81, Marywood University
73
SCRANTON (PA) - Delaware Valley College junior guard Shannon O'Neill
scored a game-high 25 points, including 17 in the second half, to
lift the visiting Aggies over host Marywood University, 81-73, in
a non-conference game.
The win evened the Aggies' record at 3-3, while the Pacers dropped
their fourth consecutive game and fell to 2-6.
After Marywood took an early 6-4 lead, Delaware Valley used a quick
7-0 run, including five by O'Neill, to regain an 11-6 advantage.
The Aggies expanded that lead to 24-15 by forcing Marywood into
several of their 16, first-half turnovers. The Pacers, however,
closed the gap over the next five minutes with a 10-1 run to knot
the game at 25-25 with 6:14 remaining in the opening stanza.
However, Delaware Valley eventually took a 38-31 lead at intermission
thanks to freshmen Angela Mensch and Stephanie Fanto, who each converted
traditional three-point plays in the closing minutes of the first
half.
Delaware Valley built its largest lead of the game, 55-44, with
13:52 remaining in the game, but Marywood's Caity Hadzimichalis
hit a three-pointer and then two consecutive layups to make it a
57-53 game.
The Pacers eventually knotted the game at 66-66 and it was still
tied at 68-68 with 2:21 remaining. However, O'Neill scored eight
consecutive points on a layup, a 3-pointer and three, free throws
for a 76-68 advantage with 1:04 to go. She hit five of her nine
shots from the floor in the second half, including a 4-for-6 effort
three-point land. O'Neill also finished with six rebounds, six assists
and four steals.
The Aggies received 13 points apiece from Fanto (a career-high)
and Rachel Joyce while Brooke Dittmar contributed 11 points and
nine rebounds.
The Pacers were led by Lizzy Green's 19-point effort, while Hadzimichalis
and Adrianna DeVito each added 17.
