Delaware Valley College 65, Lycoming College
63
WILLIAMSPORT (PA) - Moira Donohue's
jumper with just 2.1 seconds remaining lifted Delaware Valley College
to a 65-63 victory at Lycoming College in a Freedom Conference game.
The Aggies improved to 7-8 overall and 3-3 in conference play. They
will now host The University of Scranton, which may enter the game
as the number one team in Division III when the new poll is released,
on Wednesday, January 24 (6:00 p.m.). The Lady Warriors fell to
5-12 overall and 0-6 in the Freedom.
Lycoming took advantage of Delaware Valley turnovers and scored
six straight points to tie the game at 63-63 with 47 seconds remaining.
The Aggies turned the ball over again, but Lycoming Rebecca Leid
missed a layup with 12 seconds to go. Shannon O'Neill grabbed the
defensive rebound and headed upcourt for a Delaware Valley fast
break opportunity.
O'Neill reached the top of the key and found a wide-open Donohue
in the right corner just inside the three-point line. The junior
drained the jumper for her 12th and 13th points of the game and
a 65-63 advantage. Following a timeout, Lycoming tried a long pass
downcourt, but Rachel Joyce stole it and dribbled out the final
ticks for the win.
Delaware Valley held a 36-34 lead at halftime, and opened the second
stanza with a 12-4 run and a 10-point advantage. The Aggies led
by 10 on five other occasions in the half, before Lycoming slowly
chipped away at its deficit and tied the game in the final minute.
That led to Donohue's heroics and the win.
Joyce tied a career-high with 25 points and, in the process, moved
into seventh place on the school's all-time scoring list with 1,119
points. The senior also grabbed nine rebounds and dished out four
assists. Donohue added seven rebounds to go along with her 13 points
while O'Neill notched 11 points and six assists.
The Lady Warriors were led by Andrea Cooper's 19 points while Leid
notched 14.
