Delaware Valley 81, Wilkes University 55

DOYLESTOWN (PA) - The Delaware Valley College women's basketball team went on a 19-0 run in the first half and cruised to an 81-55 victory over visiting Wilkes University in a Freedom Conference game.

The win improved the Aggies to 15-6 overall and 7-3 in conference play. They are now in sole possession of second place as DeSales University dropped a 78-73 decision to King's College. Four games remain in the season and the top four teams qualify for the Freedom Conference. The Lady Colonels fell to 6-15 overall, 2-8 in conference action.

Rena Bolin hit a layup with 15:07 remaining in the first half to bring Wilkes to within three, 10-7. However, the Lady Colonels did not score again until the 5:39 mark as Delaware Valley ran its lead to 29-7. Juli McGowan had five points in the run while Moira Donohue and Kristin Bone added four apiece.

Randi Corbo hit a short jumper to end the scoreless drought, but the Aggies responded with six straight - four by Bone - for a 35-9 advantage. They went on to take a 42-18 halftime lead as they forced 22 miscues - while committing just five - and had a 22-0 edge in points off those miscues.

Wilkes never got closer than 18 points the rest of the way and finished the game with 33 turnovers as Delaware Valley held a 43-6 advantage in points off turnovers.

Six Aggies reached double figures led by Shannon O'Neill's 14 points. Moira Donohue notched 12 points and six steals while twin sisters Kate and Jennifer McCarthy came off the bench to add 12 and 11 points respectively. Jennifer McCarthy also added three assists and three steals. Kristin Bone came off the bench to contribute 10 points and six boards while Juli McGowan connected for 10 points.

Bolin had 15 points for Wilkes while Randi Corbo and Kelly Patchell added eight apiece. Patchell also notched a game-high 10 rebounds.
