Delaware Valley 60, King's College 44
WILKES-BARRE (PA) - Delaware Valley College went on a 17-1 run
over the last 5:40 of the contest to break a 43-43 tie and defeat
host King's College, 60-44, in a Freedom Conference game.
The win improved the Aggies improved to 13-6 overall and 5-3 in
the Freedom Conference. They remained tied with DeSales University
and FDU-Florham for second place in the conference while the Lady
Monarchs (9-10, 4-4) and Drew University fell a game back with losses.
Delaware Valley has also swept the season series with King's in
what may be a crucial tiebreaker edge down the stretch.
Delaware Valley held a 28-18 advantage at halftime and built the
lead to as many as 11 in the second stanza. The Lady Monarchs chipped
away and eventually tied the game at 43-43 on a field goal by Brittany
Atzert.
However it was all Aggies the rest of the way, thank to their free
throw shooting and defense. They were a perfect 12-for-12 from the
charity stripe and they held King's to just one point - an Andrea
Hochstuhl free throw with 28 seconds left - in the final 5:40.
Rachel Joyce hit eight free throws down the stretch while Juli
McGoan and Shannon O'Neill hit two apiece. Brooke Dittmar connected
on a field goal and Moira Donohue nailed a 3-pointer to account
for Delaware Valley's final spurt.
Donohue led all players with 17 points and four steals. O'Neill
followed her 31-point effort at nationally-ranked Scranton with
14 points and four assists. Joyce and Dittmar each had a double-double
with Joyce notching 12 points and 12 rebounds and Dittmar adding
10 points and 10 boards.
Hochstuhl led King's with 15 points while Beth Jordan contributed
12 points and a game-high 14 rebounds.
