Delaware Valley 60, King's College 44

WILKES-BARRE (PA) - Delaware Valley College went on a 17-1 run over the last 5:40 of the contest to break a 43-43 tie and defeat host King's College, 60-44, in a Freedom Conference game.

The win improved the Aggies improved to 13-6 overall and 5-3 in the Freedom Conference. They remained tied with DeSales University and FDU-Florham for second place in the conference while the Lady Monarchs (9-10, 4-4) and Drew University fell a game back with losses. Delaware Valley has also swept the season series with King's in what may be a crucial tiebreaker edge down the stretch.

Delaware Valley held a 28-18 advantage at halftime and built the lead to as many as 11 in the second stanza. The Lady Monarchs chipped away and eventually tied the game at 43-43 on a field goal by Brittany Atzert.

However it was all Aggies the rest of the way, thank to their free throw shooting and defense. They were a perfect 12-for-12 from the charity stripe and they held King's to just one point - an Andrea Hochstuhl free throw with 28 seconds left - in the final 5:40.

Rachel Joyce hit eight free throws down the stretch while Juli McGoan and Shannon O'Neill hit two apiece. Brooke Dittmar connected on a field goal and Moira Donohue nailed a 3-pointer to account for Delaware Valley's final spurt.

Donohue led all players with 17 points and four steals. O'Neill followed her 31-point effort at nationally-ranked Scranton with 14 points and four assists. Joyce and Dittmar each had a double-double with Joyce notching 12 points and 12 rebounds and Dittmar adding 10 points and 10 boards.

Hochstuhl led King's with 15 points while Beth Jordan contributed 12 points and a game-high 14 rebounds.
