Delaware Valley 41, FDU-Florham 40
MADISON (NJ) - Sophomore guard Moira Donohue scored Delaware Valley
College's final five points as the Aggies erased a deficit and then
held on for a 41-40 road triumph over FDU-Florham in the Freedom
Conference opener for each team.
Delaware Valley improved to 3-1 overall and 1-0 in the Freedom
while FDU dropped to 3-2 overall and 0-1 in the Freedom.
The Aggies trailed 38-36 with 3:29 remaining when Donohue took
over. She hit a jumper with 2:39 to go and then followed up a minute
later with a layup while being fouled. Donohue completed the 3-point
play to give Delaware Valley a 41-38 advantage.
The Devils pulled to within one with 46 seconds to go and then
had an opportunity to win the game as they had the ball out of bounds
under their own basket with three seconds left following their own
time out. The ball was inbounded to senior center Ashley Flaherty
who was able to get a six-foot jumper off from the baseline. The
shot went off the rim and across the paint where it was corralled
by Delaware Valley's Shannon O'Neill.
Both teams struggled offensively as Delaware Valley shot 29.6 percent
from the floor (16-for-54) and the Devils managed just a 27.1 clip
(16-for-59). The Aggies were 3-for-17 from beyond the arc (17.6
percent) and the Devils did not fare much better, making just two
three-pointers in 10 attempts (20.0 percent).
For Delaware Valley, Donohue led the way with a game-high 14 points.
Rachel Joyce added nine markers and three steals. Emily Cerankowski
led the Devils with 13 points and also grabbed eight rebounds.
