Basketball Drew University 73, Delaware
Valley 66 DOYLESTOWN (PA) - Courtney Cunningham and Melissa
Kraft notched 25 points and 12 rebounds apiece to lead Drew University to a 73-66
road victory over Delaware Valley College in a Freedom Conference game. The
win improved the Rangers to 7-6 overall and 2-1 in the Freedom while the Aggies
fell to 9-4 overall and 2-1 in conference play. Cunningham hit 11 of 17
shots from the field (2-for-4 from 3-point land), was 1-for-3 from the foul line
and also added five assists. Kraft was 9-for-19 (3-for-10 from 3-point land) and
4-for-5 from the foul line. She had six assists and a block as both played all
40 minutes in the contest. Drew never trailed in the game as it opened with
an 8-2 run and built the first-half lead to as many as eight, 23-15, as Cunningham
hit a 3-pointer with 7:16 remaining for three of her 16, first-half points. However,
the Aggies outscored the Rangers, 15-7, the rest of the half to trail by just
two, 30-28, at the break. Drew came out strongly in the second half as
well and quickly moved the lead back to eight. Delaware Valley pulled to within
three, 41-38, with 14:40 remaining. However, Maggie Marquis and Cunningham hit
back-to-back treys to start a 9-2 run that gave the Rangers a 50-40 advantage
midway through the half. Delaware Valley scored five straight to cut its
deficit in half, but Drew responded with a 10-2 run to put the contest away. Rachel
Joyce paced the Aggies as the junior forward/guard notched 25 points and 13 rebounds.
Senior guard Juli McGowan hit double figures with 11 points while sophomore guard
Moira Donohue tallied nine points, five rebounds and four steals. |
