Delaware Valley 75, Albany College of
Pharmacy 65
BETHLEHEM (PA) - The Delaware Valley College women's basketball
team earned a split at the 5th annual STARTERS Moravian College
Winter Classic as the Aggies notched a 75-65 triumph over Albany
College of Pharmacy in the consolation game.
Delaware Valley improved to 8-3 with the victory while Albany fell
to 8-4. Moravian, ranked 20th in Division III, took the Winter Classic
title with a victory over Franklin & Marshall College in the
championship game.
The Aggies jumped out to a 15-3 lead less than seven minutes into
the contest as Rachel Joyce and Moira Donohue paced the spurt with
six and five points respectively. They shot 53.6 percent from the
field in the first half and cruised to a 43-31 advantage at the
intermission.
The second half saw Delaware Valley build the lead to as many as
15, 60-45, with 8:32 to go following back-to-back layups by Jennifer
McCarthy and Kristen Bone. However, Albany went on a 14-5 run to
pull to within six, 65-49, with 2:24 left on the clock.
Shannon O'Neill followed with a 3-pointer for Delaware Valley and,
following, an Albany layup, Juli McGowan hit for four straight points
and a 72-61 Aggie advantage.
Donohue finished with 21 points, six rebounds, five assists and
three steals and was named to the all-tournament team for her efforts.
Joyce recorded 18 points and seven boards while O'Neill contributed
17 points, nine assists, four rebounds and four steals.
Randi Maurer tallied a game-high 24 points and Amber Jillson added
16 in the losing effort.
