Delaware Valley 76, Wilkes University 57

DOYLESTOWN (PA) - Delaware Valley College opened the second half with an 18-0 run to pull away from visiting Wilkes University and down the Lady Colonels, 76-57, in a Freedom Conference game Thursday.

With the win, the Aggies improved to 12-11 overall and 4-9 in the conference. They will wrap up the regular season on Saturday with a trip to The University of Scranton and take on a Lady Royal team that is ranked No. 1 in Division III in one poll and second in another. Wilkes fell to 4-20, 1-12 and the Lady Colonels will end their season at Drew University on Saturday.

The Aggies used a 14-2 run, including six by center Bridget Golden, to take a 29-18 lead late in the first half. The teams traded baskets before Wilkes scored eight of the next 11 to cut its deficit to six, 34-28, at the intermission.

However, it was all Delaware Valley from there as the Aggies sprinted out to a 52-28 advantage with the game-clinching run. They pounded the ball inside as Golden scored four of the first six points in the spurt while sophomore forward Rachel Joyce added six more.

Wilkes finally ended the run and got on the scoreboard in the second half as Katie Cappelloni sank a jumper with 12:39 remaining. The closest the Lady Colonels got the rest of the way was 16, 57-41, with 7:12 remaining as Tristin Tkach hit four consecutive free throws. However, Aggie freshman Moria Donohue's three-point play nine seconds later put the lead back up to 19.

Golden finished her final home game with 22 points, 14 rebounds and 13 blocks for her 16th double-double of the season. She is Delaware Valley's all-time leader in both rebounds (977) and blocks (198) and is also fifth in scoring with 1,243 points.

Fellow senior Jackie Hartzell finished with 10 points and four rebounds and upped her career 3-point total to 103 - sixth-best in school history. The two have helped Delaware Valley notch 51 wins, three Freedom Conference playoffs berth, one ECAC playoff berth and one trip to the Freedom Conference Championship Game during their four-year careers.

Joyce finished with 16 points while Donohue reached double figures with 10 points. Freshman Shannon O'Neill notched nine points, five rebounds and four assists in the victory.

Lacey Andresen and Rena Bolin had 10 points apiece to pace Wilkes. Andresen also added seven rebounds and three steals. Randi Corbo came off the bench to contribute eight points, four rebounds and three assists in 22 minutes of action.
