Women's Basketball Delaware Valley 66,
Wilkes University 57 WILKES-BARRE (PA) - Delaware Valley College
senior center Bridget Golden notched 16 points and 13 rebounds for her ninth straight
double-double and tied the Aggies' all-time rebounding mark in the team's 66-57
road victory over Wilkes University in a Freedom Conference game. The
win was the third straight for Delaware Valley as it improved its record to 11-10
overall and 3-8 in the Freedom Conference. The Lady Colonels fell to 4-18, 1-10.
The 13 boards upped Golden's career total to 951 to tie her with 2002 graduate
Lauren Snyder for the school's all-time record. Golden, who has 15, double-doubles
this season, is already the Aggies' all-time leader in blocked shots (194) and
is fifth on the all-time scoring list (1,219). Wilkes pulled to within
one, 14-13, as Lyndsay Bey hit a jumper with 11:44 remaining in the first half.
Delaware Valley responded with a 20-7 spurt to take a 34-20 advantage with 1:39
to go. Golden and Shannon O'Neill had six points apiece in the run. The
Lady Colonels scored the final five points of the half to trail by nine at the
break, and made it a four-point ballgame, 38-34, with 17:22 left. The Aggies followed
with nine straight, capped by Jackie Hartzell's 3-pointer with 13:19 remaining,
for a 47-34 lead. Four minutes later, Delaware Valley built its largest
lead of the game at 14, 51-37, but the Lady Colonels fought back with a 12-2 run
and a 53-49 score with 6:22 to go. Andrea Kacprowicz keyed the rally with eight
points including a pair of treys. It was still a four-point game with
5:20 remaining before Moira Donohue's layup and a Jackie Hartzell free throw upped
the Aggie lead to 58-51 with 3:43 remaining. Wilkes never got closer than five
points the rest of the way. Donohue tied Golden for game-high scoring
honors as the freshman finished with 16 points and five rebounds. Hartzell added
13 tallies while Rachel Joyce contributed 11 points and seven rebounds. O'Neill
notched six points, 11 rebounds and seven assists in 37 minutes of action.
Rena Bolin paced the Lady Colonels with 15 points while Lacey Andresen had
a double-double with 14 points and a game-high 15 rebounds. Kacprowicz finished
her afternoon with 13 points and Bey added nine in the loss. | |
