University of Scranton 85, Delaware Valley 64

SCRANTON (PA) -- The Delaware Valley College women's basketball team ended its 2004-05 season with an 85-64, Freedom Conference loss at the number one team in Division III, The University of Scranton.

The Aggies finish 12-12 overall and 4-01 in the conference while the Lady Royals won their 24th game in a row and wrapped up the regular season 24-1 overall and a perfect 14-0 in the Freedom. It is the 13th time that Scranton has posted a perfect record in conference games.

The Lady Royals jumped out to a 33-18 lead at halftime as they held Delaware Valley to just 20 percent shooting in the opening 20 minutes. The Aggies pulled to within 10, early in the second stanza, but Scranton responded with a 10-2 run to put the contest away.

Allison Matt led all scored with 17 points while Taryn Mellody added 15 points and six rebounds in the victory.

Sophomore Rachel Joyce paced Delaware Valley with 16 points while freshmen guards Moira Donohue and Shannon O'Neill chipped in with 13 apiece.

Seniors Bridget Golden and Jackie Hartzell played in their last games for the Aggies. Golden, who was hobbled with an ankle injury, finished the game with nine points, seven rebounds and three blocks and tied the school's single-season record with 71 blocks. She is Delaware Valley's all-time leader in rebounds (984) and blocked shots (201) and ranks fifth on the all-time scoring list with 1,257 points. Hartzell hit a 3-pointer for her only points of the game and she finished her career sixth all-time in 3-pointers with 104.
