61, Delaware Valley 56 WILLIAMSPORT (PA) - Senior center Bridget
Golden notched 14 points and 12 rebounds and became just the second player in
Delaware Valley College women's basketball history to go over the 900-rebound
plateau for a career, but it wasn't enough as the Aggies dropped a 61-56, Freedom
Conference game to host Lycoming College. It was Golden's 12th double-double
of the season and she also added four blocks before fouling out with 5:13 remaining
in the contest. The performance upped her career rebounding total to 904 and just
47 away from tying Lauren Snyder's school record with six games remaining. Golden
already holds Delaware Valley's all-time record in blocks with 187 and is sixth
in scoring with 1,165 points. A Golden jumper with 11 minutes remaining
in the first half gave Delaware Valley (8-10, 1-8 Freedom) its largest lead of
the game, 18-10. However, the Aggies managed just 10 points during the rest of
the half while the Lady Warriors (6-12, 2-7) scored 25 to take a 35-28 lead into
the break. Lycoming built the lead of to as many as 10, but Delaware Valley
battled back and tied the contest at 42-42 on a pair of Shannon O'Neill free throws
with 11:45 to go. However, the Warriors scored the next six points to regain the
lead. The Aggies hung around and pulled to within four, 57-53 with 1:03
remaining as Rachel Joyce sank a pair of foul shots. Amy Kile upped the lead to
six with a jumper and Rebecca Pugh added a free throw for a seven-point game with
33 seconds to go. Jackie Hartzell's 3-pointer with 12 seconds to go gave Delaware
Valley a final chance, but Lycoming's Amy Herschman hit one of two free throws
with three seconds later for the final scoring in the game. Hartzell
joined Golden in double figures as the senior scored 12 points for the Aggies.
Joyce finished with eight points and seven boards while O'Neill registered seven
points, six assists and seven steals. Kile paced the Lady Warriors with
a game-high 21 points and nine rebounds. Pugh finished with 13 points, five rebounds
and four assists off the bench. | |
