Women's Basketball Delaware Valley 62,
Lycoming College 57
DOYLESTOWN (PA) - Delaware Valley College
rallied from a 10-point, second-half deficit and posted a 62-57 victory over visiting
Lycoming College in a Freedom Conference game. The Aggies have won four
of their last five games and are 8-5 overall and 1-3 in the Freedom, while the
Lady Warriors fell to 4-8, 0-4. Lycoming held a 41-31 lead with 13:42
remaining in the contest following three free throws by Colleen Wade. However,
Delaware Valley responded with a 15-5 run to tie the contest at 46-46 with 7:50
to go. Moira Donohue and Bridget Golden scored four points apiece in the spurt.
The team traded points before another pair of Wade free throws gave the Lady
Warriors their final lead of the game at 50-49 with 5:37 remaining. Delaware Valley
responded with nine straight, including four by Jackie Hartzell and a 3-pointer
by Donohue, and a 58-50 advantage with 1:46 to go. Lycoming could not pull closer
than five points the rest of the way. Both teams struggled from the field
all afternoon as the Aggies connected on just 31 percent of their shots, including
a 6-for-29 showing (20.7%) in the first half. Lycoming hit just 19 of 64 attempts
from the field (29.7%). The Lady Warriors led by as many as 10 in the
first half, but Delaware Valley rallied behind eight points by Ashley Ziegler
to trail by just three, 23-20 at the intermission. Donohue and Ziegler
both came off the bench to combine for 30 points as the Aggie substitutes held
a 37-12 advantage. Donohue, a freshman, finished with a career-high 19 points
while Ziegler, a junior had 11 points in 24 minutes for her finest game in a Delaware
Valley uniform. Senior center Bridget Golden added 13 points, 12 rebounds and
six blocks in the victory. Wade paced Lycoming with 16 points while also
adding five rebounds, four steals and two blocks. Amy Kile contributed 10 points
and four assists and Danielle Kern added six points and a game-high 16 rebounds.
