Delaware Valley 73, Gwynedd-Mercy College 69

DOYLESTOWN (PA) - Rachel Joyce scored a game-high 17 points, including shooting 13-of-14 from the foul line as Delaware Valley College defeated Gwynedd-Mercy College, 73-69, in non-conference play Saturday.

The Aggies (3-1) converted 30-of-36 foul shots as a team, and they made 6-of-8 in the final 65 seconds to hold off the Griffins.

After Gwynedd-Mercy (0-3) tied the score at 7-7 with 13:55 left in the opening half, Delaware Valley went on an 11-0 run capped by a layup from Moira Donohue with 9:45 left. The Aggies would build the lead as high as 29-13 with 6:36 left before the Griffins cut the lead to 39-32 at the half.

Delaware Valley maintained a double-digit lead in the first 12 minutes of the second half, before Gwynedd-Mercy went on a 12-0 lead to take a 62-61 lead with 4:24 left as Lauren Healy scored on a jumper.

Both teams traded the lead in the next two minutes, as Gwynedd-Mercy held the lead for the final time at 66-65 with 2:13 left as Jillian Chiarantona hit a three-pointer.

Joyce then scored the next four points for Delaware Valley, including two foul shots with 42 seconds left for a 69-66 Aggie lead.

Bridget Golden had 15 points and 11 rebounds for Delaware Valley and is now within just eight points of becoming the eighth player in Aggie women's basketball history to reach the 1,000-point plateau. Juli McGowan had nine points while Beccie Strohecker had four steals for Delaware Valley. Jackie Hartzell added a game-high five assists.

Healy paced the Griffins with 14 points while Chiarantona and Jackie Dougherty notched 11 points apiece.
