Women's Basketball FDU-Florham 66, Delaware
Valley 56 DOYLESTOWN (PA) - FDU-Florham held Delaware Valley
to just 18.4 percent shooting from the field, including 13.3 percent in the second
half as the Devils rallied from a halftime deficit and defeated the Aggies, 66-56,
in a Freedom Conference game. The win improved FDU-Florham to 12-7 overall
and 4-4 in conference play while the Aggies slipped under the .500 mark at 8-9
overall, 1-7 in the Freedom. Delaware Valley connected on just 14 of 76
shots from the field for the game, including a 6-for-45 showing in the final 20
minutes. The team also struggled from the foul line, making just 23 of its 35
attempts (65.7%). Nonetheless, the Aggies held a 27-23 lead at the intermission
behind the effort of senior center Bridget Golden, who had 10 points and 11 rebounds.
Delaware Valley still held a 36-34 advantage before, the Devils scored six straight,
including four by Ashley Flaherty, to take a 40-36 lead with 13:53 remaining.
Shannon O'Neill's 3-pointer with 13:17 to go, pulled the Aggies to within
one, but FDU-Florham responded with 10 straight to take its largest lead of the
game, 50-39, and Delaware Valley never got closer than seven the rest of the way.
Flaherty led the Devils with 14 points and also added eight rebounds
and five blocks. Cara Jennings had a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds
while Jessie Chalmers poured in 13 points as well. Golden finished with
game-highs of 21 points, 21 rebounds and six blocks in 37 minutes of action. Jackie
Hartzell finished with 11 points while O'Neill hit three treys and ended with
10 points. Delaware Valley was without the services of its second leading scorer
and rebounder in Rachel Joyce (illness). | |
