FDU-Florham 77, Delaware Valley 70


MADISON (NJ) - Senior center Bridget Golden became the eighth player in Delaware Valley College women's basketball history to reach the 1,000-point plateau, but it wasn't enough as the Aggies dropped a 77-70 decision at FDU-Florham in the Freedom Conference opener for both teams.

Golden entered the contest needing just eight points to reach the milestone. She finished with 11, including a free throw with 5:41 remaining for point number 1,000. Golden also added 14 rebounds and eight blocks before fouling out with 49 seconds remaining.

FDU-Florham (3-3, 1-0) jumped out to a 38-30 halftime lead and upped the advantage to as many as 15 in the second half. The Aggies (3-2, 0-1) pulled to within four, 74-70, with 37 seconds remaining on a Ashely Ziegler 3-pointer, but the Devils scored the game's final three points for the victory.

Rachel Joyce led Delaware Valley with 18 points and also added 10 rebounds. Juli McGowan hit four 3-pointers off the bench and ended the night with 16 points in 15 minutes of action. Freshman Beccie Strohecker also reached double figures with 10 points.

Pamela Sagehorn had 16 points and 14 rebounds for FDU-Florham while Ashley Flaherty added 11 points and 14 boards.
