Women's Basketball Delaware Valley 84,
Arcadia University 64 DOYLESTOWN
(PA) - The Delaware Valley College women's basketball team ended the first semester
on a high note as a 16-0 run early in the second half keyed an 84-64, non-conference
victory over visiting Arcadia University.
The win was the second straight
for the Aggies as they ended the 2004 portion of their schedule with a 5-4 record.
They will return to action on Thursday, January 6 at Marywood University. The
loss dropped the Knights to 4-4. Delaware Valley led by as many as 14
in the first half and took a 41-33 advantage into the intermission. Arcadia made
it a seven-point ballgame, 43-36, with 17:18 remaining, as Ashley Vandiver hit
one of two free throws. However, it was all Delaware Valley from there
as the Aggies scored 16 consecutive points for a 59-36 lead with 14:52 to go.
Juli McGowan scored six points in the run while Bridget Golden added four.
Four players reached double figures in scoring for Delaware Valley, led by
senior Jackie Hartzell's 15 points. She also added four rebounds and four assists
off the bench. McGowan finished with 13 points and seven rebounds while Beccie
Strohecker and Moira Donohue added 10 apiece. Golden finished with six points
and a team-high 11 rebounds while Jennifer McCarthy contributed six points and
nine boards. Vandiver paced Arcadia with 27 points, 15 rebounds and three
blocks before fouling out with 10 seconds to go. Lauren Bateman went the full
40 minutes and finished with 21 points and three assists. | |
