Delaware Valley 85, Wilkes University

WILKES-BARRE (PA) -- Delaware Valley College earned an 85-72 Freedom
Conference womens basketball win over Wilkes University on
Saturday afternoon in the Marts Center. The win improves the Aggies
to 9-5 overall and 4-2 in the conference. Wilkes slips to 1-14 overall
and 0-5 in conference play.
Delaware Valley used a 10-0 run to close the first half to take
the lead for good. After Danielle Kresock scored on an offensive
rebound to give the Lady Colonels a 35-31 lead with 2:51 left in
the half, the Aggies began their spurt. Shannon McCormick nailed
a three-pointer to cut the lead to 35-34. Kate McCarthy followed
with another three to give Delaware Valley a 37-35 advantage. Bridget
Golden followed with two free throws and Sarah Butler canned two
charity tosses to provide the Aggies with a 41-35 lead at intermission.
Wilkes would hang around throughout most of the second half. Janna
Ward knocked down a jumper for the Lady Colonels to get her team
within 65-58 with 7:44 left in the contest. But, Delaware Valley
would score the next seven points to take control for good. McCormick
knocked down a jumper and Ashley Ziegler scored on a drive to push
the lead to 69-58. Juli
McGowan would follow with a three-pointer to put the Aggies on top
72-58 with 5:11 left. The Lady Colonels would get no closer than
ten points the rest of the way.
McCarthy netted 20 points and grabbed five rebounds for Delaware
Valley. Golden chipped in with 18 points and ten rebounds, while
Rachel Joyce added 16 points and seven boards. McCormick finished
with nine points, six rebounds and four steals in the victory.
Wilkes was led by Rena Bolin, who had 14 points, four rebounds three
assists and four steals. Andrea DeMaranville contribured 13 points
and ten rebounds. Ward had 12 points and seven boards and Kresock
cashed in 11 points.
