King's College 83, Delaware Valley 72
DOYLESTOWN (PA) - King's College scored the final 10 points of the
game as the Lady Monarchs held on for an 83-72 road victory over
Delaware Valley College in a Freedom Conference game.
King's improved to 13-4 overall and 5-2 in conference play with
the victory while the Aggies fell to 9-8, 4-4.
The Lady Monarchs went on a 20-8 run in the first half to build
their largest lead of the game, 37-21, with 7:38 to go before the
intermission. Katie Lala keyed the spurt with seven points.
King's still held a 13-point lead until Delaware Valley scored nine
points in a row in the final 2:03 of the half to trail 48-44 at
the break. Part of the run for the Aggies was 3-pointer by Juli
McGowan - her third of the first half as she scored 11 points in
11 minutes of action off the bench.
The Lady Monarchs built the lead back up to as many as nine, but
Delaware Valley fought back each time. The Aggies pulled to within
one on two occasions, the last coming with 2:10 to go as Bridget
Golden converted a basket and a foul shot to make it 73-72.
However, King's put the game away as Kristen Yeasted hit two free
throws then scored on a 3-point play for a 78-72 advantage with
1:12 remaining. The Lady Monarchs continued the run by hitting five
of eight free throw attempts.
Golden led Delaware Valley with 21 points and 11 rebounds - her
12th double-double of the season. The junior also moved into fourth
place on the Aggie all-time rebounding list with 612 boards passing
the total of 603 by 1993 graduate Dawn Papciak.
McGowan finished with 13 points as did Jackie Hartzell. Kate McCarthy
contributed 10 points, five rebounds, eight assists and four steals
in the loss.
Yeasted scored a game-high
24 points and also added seven rebounds. Tiffni Varrasse finished
with 16 points, six rebounds and seven steals while Jennie Orelli
and Lala added 14 and 12 points respectively.
