Delaware Valley 66, Juniata College 58
DOYLESTOWN (PA) - The Delaware Valley College women's basketball
team went on a 16-4 run in the second half to pull away from visiting
Juniata College and post a 66-58 victory in a non-conference game.
With the win, the Aggies improved to 4-0 on the season. The Eagles
had their two-game winning streak snapped as they fell to 2-2.
Juniata opened the second half with a 10-3 spurt to erase a one-point
deficit and take a 43-37 lead. Jen Uhrich had eight of the 10 points
during the run.
The Eagles still led by four, 52-48, with 8:41 remaining following
a Dana Reist free throw. However, Delaware Valley responded with
nine consecutive points and 16 of the next 20 to build a 64-56 advantage
with 1:33 to go. Freshman forward Rachel Joyce had five points while
junior center Bridget Golden and sophomore guard Juli McGowan had
four apiece during that span.
The Aggies jumped out to a quick 10-0 lead in the first three minutes
of the game and built it to as many as 13, 15-2, with 15:04 to go
before intermission. Juniata slowly fought back and even took a
brief 29-28 lead with 2:51 remaining in the half. Delaware Valley
did hold a 34-33 advantage at the break behind seven points apiece
from Joyce and junior forward/guard Jackie Hartzell.
Hartzell finished with 14 points to pace the Aggies. Joyce notched
12 points, eight rebounds and three steals while sophomore guard
Kate McCarthy also reached double figures with 12 points. Golden
had nine points to go along with game highs of 10 rebounds, five
blocks and five steals.
Uhrich led all players with 17 points for the Eagles. She also added
seven rebounds. Reist finished with 12 points and nine boards while
Lesley Snoby added 11 points and seven rebounds.
