Delaware Valley 98, FDU-Florham 67
DOYLESTOWN (PA) - The Delaware Valley College women's basketball
team placed six players in double figures as the Aggies improved
to 5-0 for just the fifth time in program history with a 98-67 victory
over visiting FDU-Florham in the Freedom Conference opener for both
teams.
In its 30-year history as a varsity sport, Delaware Valley has
started a season 5-0 in 1984-85, 1985-86, 1988-89, 2000-01 and now
the 2002-03 campaign. The Aggies reached that mark by jumping out
to an early 10-2 lead and never looked back.
Delaware Valley held a 42-32 lead at the break and went on a 17-6
run to start the second half to build a 21-point lead with 13:22
remaining. Junior forward/center Bridget Golden had nine of the
17 points in the run.
Golden finished with 21 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks in
just 20 minutes of action. She sat out most of the first half with
foul trouble. Sophomore Juli McGowan poured in 18 points in 25 minutes
while classmate Kate McCarthy added 14 points and seven assists.
Senior Shannon McCormick had a double-double with 13 points and
a career-high 14 rebounds. Junior Jackie Hartzell and freshman Rachel
Joyce also reached double figures with 12 and 11 points respectively.
Hartzell also added seven assists while Joyce grabbed seven rebounds.
Pamela Sagehorn led FDU-Florham (1-3, 0-1) with 17 points.
