Delaware Valley 82, Drew University 69

DOYLESTOWN (PA) - The Delaware Valley College women's basketball team went on a 14-0 run early in the second half to take its first lead of the game and the Aggies never looked back as they snapped a three-game losing streak with an 82-69 victory over Drew University in a Freedom Conference game.

Delaware Valley improved to 7-4 overall and 1-1 in the conference while the Rangers fell to 6-3, 1-1.

The Aggies trailed by as many as 10 in the first half before cutting their deficit to three, 40-37, at the intermission. Drew built the lead up to eight and still held a 47-41 advantage as Courtney Cunningham hit a pair of free throws with 16:50 remaining.

Delaware Valley answered with 14 straight points, including eight by freshman forward Rachel Joyce, to take a 55-47 lead with 12:04 to go. The Aggies then scored 13 of the next 18 points to extend the run to a 27-5 spurt and their lead to 16. Drew got to within 12, 74-62, on Cunningham's 3-pointer with 2:22 to go, but Delaware Valley responded with six straight free throws for its largest lead of the contest.

Joyce finished with a career-high 24 points, including a 12-for-12 showing from the foul line. The Aggies were deadly from the stripe as they connected on 29 of 32 free throw attempts (90.6%).

Senior Shannon McCormick added 17 points, seven rebounds and four steals for Delaware Valley while junior Bridget Golden had a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Freshman Sarah Butler was strong off the bench with eight points, five rebounds and three assists in 14 minutes of action.

Cunningham paced Drew with 19 points and eight assists. Melissa Kraft reached double figures with 14 points and Lauren Aliano added 11 points and a game-high 13 rebounds. Jennifer Weldon contributed 10 points and eight boards in the loss.
