DOYLESTOWN (PA) - The Lycoming College women's basketball team
scored the first 12 points of the game and never relinquished the
lead as the Lady Warriors posted a 68-61 victory over host Delaware
Valley College in a Freedom Conference game.
Lycoming (8-10, 3-5 Freedom) opened with a Sabrina Catrambone lay-up,
an Amy Herschman free throw and a Mindy Culp 3-pointer for a 6-0
lead. The Lady Warriors doubled that as Emily DiMarco hit back-to-back
3-pointers.
The Aggies (7-11, 2-6 Freedom) tried to climb back into the game
in the first half, but Lycoming had an answer each time and it took
a 38-27 lead into the intermission.
Delaware Valley opened the second stanza with eight straight points,
including five by Bridget Golden, to pull to within two, 38-36,
with 15:28 to go. However, the Aggies were never able to gain the
lead in the half.
Late in the game, Mindy Culp hit six free throws to clinch it for
Lycoming. Culp and DiMarco finished with 17 points apiece to pace
the Lady Warriors. Lyndy LeVan came off the bench to notch 14 points
and 10 rebounds.
Golden led all players with 27 points and 12 rebounds. Amber Smolinsky,
the conference's leading scorer at more than 19 points per game,
was held to just eight points - all in the second half
