Lycoming College 75, Delaware Valley 72

WILLIAMSPORT (PA) -- Junior Shannon McCormick notched a career-high 19 points, nine rebounds and five assists but it wasn't enough as Delaware Valley College dropped a 75-72 contest to host Lycoming College in a Freedom Conference game.

The loss dropped the Aggies to 1-4 overall and 0-2 in conference play while the Lady Warriors improved to 3-2, 1-1.

McCormick, a guard/forward, had reached double figures in scoring just once before Saturday as she had 12 points in a 90-50 rout of Widener last season. She connected on eight of 14 shots from the field, including a 3-for-5 effort from 3-point land for her 19 points against Lycoming. The five assists were also a career-high while the nine rebounds were her second-highest total before she fouled out late in the game.

The two teams were tied 34-34 at halftime. In the second half the Lady Warriors began to pull away with a 14-2 run that gave them a 54-44 lead with 15 minutes to play. Delaware Valley, however, slowly chipped away at the deficit and eventually grabbed a 64-62 advantage with seven minutes remaining.

Three lead changes later, Lycoming tied the game ay 72-72 with 59 seconds to go. From there, the Lady Warriors forced two turnovers and two missed shots while recorded a free thro0w by Lyndy LeVan and a lay-up by Emily DiMarco to secure the win.

In addition to McCormick, freshman Juli McGowan came off the bench to hit three, 3-pointers for Delaware Valley and she finished with a career-best 15 points in 16 minutes of action. Junior center Sarah Tuffner also reached double figures with 10 points while also grabbing eight boards. Sophomore forward/center Bridget Golden added eight points and a game and personal-best 15 rebounds.

Mindy Culp and DiMarco paced Lycoming with 16 points apiece while LeVan added 12.
