(Consolation Game of Marymount University December Classic)
ARLINGTON (VA) -- Kean University's Kellie Rice and Jaquanna Abdullah
scored 32 and 31 points respectively to lead the Cougars to a wild,
103-99 victory over Delaware Valley College in the consolation game
of the Marymount University December Classic.
The game featured 202 points, 64 fouls and 85 trips to the foul
line. Delaware Valley (1-6) was 31-for-43 from the charity stripe
while Kean (8-2) went 28-for-42.
Kean opened the game with a 12-0 run and led by as many as 19 in
the first half. However, the Aggies fought back and trailed by just
five, 53-48, at halftime.
The second half featured 10 ties and seven changes including a
17-6 run by the Aggies which gave them an 84-73 lead with 7:27 remaining.
The Cougars rallied and outscored Delaware Valley 31-15 the rest
of the way.
Senior guard Amber Smolinsky scored 24 points for the second consecutive
game and was named to the all-tournament team as she finished the
two-game classic with 48 points, 13 assists and 10 rebounds. Smolinsky
now has 1,086 career points and is eight shy of passing 1990 grad
Michelle Shirk for sixth place on the Aggie all-time list.
Freshman guard Juli McGowan was instant offense off the bench for
Delaware Valley as she scored a career-high 20 points in 21 minutes
of play. McGowan hit five of 11 attempts from 3-point land. Junior
Shannon McCormick notched a double-double with 14 points and 13
rebounds while sophomore Bridget Golden also had a double-double
with 10 points and 15 boards. |
