Delaware Valley 79, Goucher College 71

DOYLESTOWN (PA) - The tandem of team captains Amber Smolinsky and Shannon McCormick combined for 47 points, 16 rebounds and seven assists as the Delaware Valley College women's basketball team defeated visiting Goucher College, 79-71, for a non-conference game.

It was the first home game of the season for the Aggies who improved to 2-7 on the season. The Gophers fell to 3-6.

Smolinsky finished with 27 points, including 22 in the second half, eight rebounds and three assists while McCormick had a career-high 20 points to go along with eight rebounds and four assists.

Delaware Valley led 36-31 at halftime with McCormick pacing the team with 12 points in those first 20 minutes. The game was tight for the 10 minutes of the second half before Smolinsky took over.

Smolinsky scored nine points in a row in a 9-2 run for the Aggies as they increased a one-point lead to a 57-49 advantage with 10:39 left. Goucher pulled back to within six at 59-53 with 9:19 left, but Delaware Valley scored the next five points to bump the lead up to 11.

In addition to Smolinsky and McCormick, sophomore Bridget Golden reached double figures as she tallied 11 points and 16 rebounds.
