Women's Basketball

Delaware Valley 77, FDU-Florham 54

DOYLESTOWN (PA) -- The Delaware Valley College women's basketball team moved into a tie for the fourth and final playoff spot in the Freedom Conference with a convincing, 77-54 victory over visiting FDU-Florham.

The Aggies are now 10-14 overall and 5-8 in conference play with one game remaining. They are tied with Lycoming and both Wilkes and Drew are one game back at 4-9. Delaware Valley needs to win at Drew on Saturday and have Lycoming lose at nationally-ranked DeSales the same day to clinch its fourth playoff berth in the last five years. The Aggies must leapfrog Lycoming in the standings since they were swept by the Lady Warriors this season.

It was Senior Night at Delaware Valley and guard Amber Smolinsky was honored before the game. She then went out and notched game highs of 26 points, eight assists and six steals in 35 minutes of action. Smolinsky is fourth on the Aggie all-time scoring list with 1,387 points and is just 26 behind her head coach, Laura Hogan, for fourth place.

Up by three with 3:58 remaining in the first half, Delaware Valley went on a 10-0 run to take a 40-27 advantage into the intermission. Freshman Ashley Ziegler had four points during that spurt.

The Aggies were ahead 44-31 when they went on another run, this time a 9-0 rally to move the lead to 22, 53-31, with 15:55 to go. Smolinsky had four points to key the attack.

Freshman Kate McCarthy joined Smolinsky in double figures as she had 12 points. Ziegler and Bridget Golden added nine points apiece.

The Devils (9-14, 2-11 Freedom) were paced by Kathryn Pearson's 11 points and 11 rebounds. Danielle Yasko added 10 points in the loss.
