WINCHESTER (VA) - Shenandoah University shot 58.8 percent from
the field in the second and outscored visiting Delaware Valley College
47-28 in those 20 minutes as the Hornets notched a 77-51, non-conference
victory.
Shenandoah, which never trailed in the contest, won its fourth game
in a row and improved its record to 5-1. The Aggies fell to 0-5
on the young season.
Shenandoah led by as many as 12 in the first half, but Delaware
Valley pulled to within seven, 30-23, at the break. Raheem Wiggins
sparked the Aggies in the latter stages of the half as he came off
the bench and was a perfect 4-for-4 from the field for eight points.
The freshman also snagged five rebounds.
The Hornets then opened the second half with an 18-5 run to build
a 20-point advantage at 48-28 with 13:06 to go. Jeremiah Lawrence
and Onyie Onunaku combined for 11 points in the spurt.
Delaware Valley rallied for 11 of the next 13 points, including
nine straight at one point, to get within 11 at 50-39 with 11:08
left on the clock. Zack Van Dyke scored eight of the points, including
a pair of long-range bombs. However, Shenandoah followed with back-to-back
baskets to up the lead to 15 and the Aggies never got closer than
13 the rest of the way.
Lawrence scored a game-high 23 points on 10-for-13 shooting from
the field for the Hornets. Lenzie Adams nailed four treys and finished
with 15 points while Onunaku notched 14 points in the win.
Van Dyke paced Delaware Valley with 14 points while Wiggins notched
11 points and a team-high nine rebounds in just 16 minutes of action.
