Delaware Valley College 80, Penn State Berks 69


DOYLESTOWN (PA) - The Delaware Valley College men's basketball team used a 14-3 run late in the second half to pull away to an 80-69 victory over visiting Penn State Berks in a non-conference game.

The loss snapped a seven-game losing streak for the Aggies as they improved to 2-16 on the season. The Nittany Lions fell to 4-14.

Delaware Valley held a slim, 61-59 lead with 5:29 remaining. Jason Seipt hit a pair of free throws and then a driving layup to up the advantage to six. After a pair of free throws by Penn State Berks' Adam Fusco, Raheem Wiggins connected on one of two foul shots and a layup to give Delaware Valley a 68-61 lead.

Ryan Rooney hit one of two charity shots for the Nittany Lions, but the Aggies put the contest away with seven straight points as Seipt drained a 3-pointer, Matt Beichey hit a jumper in the pain and Wiggins connected on a short jumper for a 75-62 lead with 1:50 to go. Penn State Berks never got closer than nine points the rest of the way.

Delaware Valley held a 33-29 advantage at the intermission. The Nittany Lions tied the contest on three occasions in the second stanza, the last coming at 54-54 as Jim Boyd nailed a 3-pointer with 8:25. The Aggies regained the advantage for good on a Seipt free throw 50 seconds later. The game was nip and tuck until the late spurt by Delaware Valley.

Freshman guard Jason Goldheimer came off the bench to score a career-high 19 points as he hit five of seven shots from the field (3-for-4 from 3-point land) and was a perfect 6-for-6 from the foul line. Beichey finished with 15 points and eight boards while Seipt and Wiggins netted 14 apiece. Seipt added nine assists and eight rebounds while Wiggins also grabbed eight boards.

Fusco was the lone Penn State Berks player to hit double figures as he ended the night with 19 points. Boyd, Rashad Allen and Mary Foss added nine points while Adrian Golston chipped in with eight points and a team-high eight rebounds.
