Manhattanville College 77, Delaware Valley
College 71
DOYLESTOWN (PA) - Manhattanville College scored 13 of the game's
final 14 points as the Valiants rallied from a six-point deficit
to post a 77-71 road victory over upset-minded Delaware Valley College
in a Freedom Conference match-up.
The win moved Manhattanville into a second-place tie with Wilkes
University in the league as the Valiants are 13-6 overall and 5-2
in the Freedom. The Aggies fell to 2-17 overall and 0-7 in the conference.
Delaware Valley trailed by as many as 13 in the second half, but
clawed its way back and tied the game at 54-54 on a 3-pointer by
Jason Goldheimer with 8:48 remaining. Manhattanville scored five
straight to regain the lead but the Aggies countered with seven
in a row to take a 61-59 advantage with 5:09 to go.
Delaware Valley was still up one, 65-64, when it scored five straight
for its largest lead of the game at 70-64 with 2:38 remaining. Freshman
forward Raheem Wiggins had a tip-in and then assisted on a three-point
play by junior guard Ryan Thomas.
The Valiants responded 12 seconds later as Cody Moffett scored on
a three-point play as well. Moffett then grabbed a defensive rebound
and was fouled. The senior hit both free throws to pull Manhattanville
to within one at 70-69 with 2:04 remaining.
Thomas was fouled with 1:54 on the clock and hit one of two free
throws for a two-point Aggie advantage. However, that was the last
point that Delaware Valley scored as the Valiants ended the game
with eight straight points.
Brian Fink tied the contest with a layup off an assist by Wesley
Wicks with 1:08 to go. Wicks then stole an Aggie pass and went coast-to-coast
for a layup and a 73-71 advantage with 52 seconds remaining. Wicks
then had another steal on a jump ball situation with 44 seconds
left in the game.
Manhattanville ran the shot clock down and Donte Chisolm hit a layup
with 16 seconds left for a 75-71 lead. Following a missed trey by
Ryan Thomas, the Valiants' Angelo Laroche hit a pair of free throws
for the 77-71 final.
Moffett paced Manhattanville with 18 points and 15 rebounds while
Fink added 16 points. Chisolm contributed 11 points and nine assists
while Wicks added six points and four steals, including some clutch
plays at the end.
Delaware Valley received 54 of its 71 points from its bench. Thomas
led that effort with a career-high 20 points. Wiggins finished with
19 points and 11 boards while Goldheimer hit double digits with
11 points.
