PURCHASE (NY) - Manhattanville College scored 12 of the game's final
13 points as the first-place Valiants pulled away to a 93-76 victory
over visiting Delaware Valley College in a Freedom Conference game.
Manhattanville improved to 11-4 overall, 3-0 and tied with DeSales
University for the top spot in the conference. The loss dropped
the Aggies to 1-14 overall and 0-4 in the Freedom.
The Valiants jumped out to a quick 14-4 lead, but the Aggies went
on a 9-2 run later in the half, capped by a Kevin Lipinski 3-pointer,
to pull to within two at 18-16 with 13:37 remaining. Manhattanville
responded with nine straight to build an 11-point lead and stretched
it to 16, 47-31, at the break.
Delaware Valley clawed its way back into the contest and used back-to-back
layups by Matt Beichey and Raheem Wiggins to trail by just six,
70-64, with 5:22 remaining. It was still a two-possession game with
1:54 to go as a pair of free throws by the Aggies' Bill Gelsomini
made the score 81-75.
However, Delaware Valley missed its final five shots from the field
and turned the ball over three times down the stretch. Meanwhile,
Manhattanville was a perfect 10-for-10 from the foul line and hit
its only shot from the field as the Valiants scored eight straight
and 12 of 13 after Gelsomini's free throws.
Brian Fink led Manhattanville with 24 points while Wesley Wicks
added 20. Donte Chilsom contributed 17 points and nine assists while
Cody Moffett hit double figures with 14 points.
Four Aggies placed in double figures, including Wiggins as the
freshman came off the bench to notch 18 points and seven rebounds
in 21 minutes of action. Sophomore forward Brian Hilinski scored
a career-high 15 points and added six boards while junior point
guard Jason Seipt notched 13 points, seven assists and five rebounds.
Gelsomini finished the afternoon with 11 points.
