FDU-Florham 77, Delaware Valley College 72


MADISON (NJ) - FDU-Florham shot 66.7 percent from the field in the second stanza as the Devils erased a halftime deficit and downed visiting Delaware Valley College, 77-72, in a Freedom Conference game.

The Aggies (1-15, 0-5) scored the first 10 points of the game and 12 of the opening 14, including six by Bill Gelsomini, for a pair of double digit leads. They maintained the lead for nearly all of the half and took a 31-29 advantage into the intermission.

Delaware Valley stayed on top for the first six minutes of the second half before five straight by FDU-Florham (2-16, 1-4) gave the host a three-point advantage. However, a Dan MacDonald trey tied the contest up at 42-42 with 12:42 remaining.

The Devils then used a 12-2 run to bolt into the lead for good at 55-44 with 9:56 left on the clock. They upped their lead to as many as 13 before the Aggies climbed back to within two on a pair of occasions. The first was at 71-69 after a Jason Goldheimer 3-pointer with 1:32 remaining, and then at 73-71 following a Raheem Wiggins jumper in the paint with 58 ticks to go.

FDU-Florham's Ryan McPherson responded with a layup with 35 seconds left and Goldheimer countered six seconds later with one free throw for a 75-72 score. McPherson was fouled with 26 second left and hit one of two free throws to make it a two-possession game. Wiggins missed a jumper for the Aggies and Ricky Fetske grabbed the defensive board. He was fouled with 15 seconds left and hit one free throw for the Devils for the 77-72 final.

Jason Seipt led Delaware Valley with 18 points, five assists and five steals. Gelsomini added 15 while Raheem Wiggins came off the bench to post a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Goldheimer also hit double figures with 10 points.

FDU-Florham, which hit 16 of 24 shots in the second half, was paced by Danny Ciprut and George Twill who had 14 points apiece. Fetske contributed 13 points and 13 rebounds while Jared Neff came off the bench to add 11 points.
