2007-08 SEASON PREVIEW

With four returning starters, head coach Denny Surovec and the Delaware Valley College men's basketball team will look to improve on its 5-20 record (3-11 Freedom Conference) from a season ago.

The Aggie lineup will have a different look to it in 2007-08 as three-time all-conference honoree Isaiah Pinckney graduated as the program's fifth all-time leading scorer with 1,435 points.

Junior guard Jason Seipt (Lansdale, PA/North Penn) and senior forward Zack Van Dyke (Arlington, VA/Washington-Lee) head the cast of returnees. Seipt averaged eight points and three assists per game last year. He placed ninth in the conference in assists and was also seventh in 3-point shooting percentage (.408).

Van Dyke averaged 11 points and five boards while placing fifth in the Freedom Conference by hitting 40.9 percent of his shots from 3-point land. In fact, the sniper heads into the final year of his collegiate career as Delaware Valley's all-time leader in 3-point shooting percentage (.430).

Junior guard Bill Gelsomini (Drexel Hill, PA/Upper Darby) and sophomore forward Brian Hilinski (Perkasie, PA/Pennridge) round out the returning starters. Gelsomini averaged 3.5 points per game and was a presence on the defensive end of the court a season ago. Hilinski battled through injuries and finished his freshman campaign with an average of 2.2 points and 1.8 rebounds per game.

Another player to watch is junior swingman Ryan Thomas (Phoenixville, PA/Phoenixville). Thomas averaged 5.4 points and 2.7 rebounds per game last season. Senior Dan McDonald (Richboro, PA/Archbishop Wood), junior Joe Lutz (Hanover, PA/Delone Catholic) and sophomore Chris Del Vecchio (Audubon, NJ/Audubon) are also back after seeing limited time a season ago.

Surovec and his staff brought a recruiting class of 10 freshmen into the program. They feel group will play a role in the upcoming campaign.

Delaware Valley opens the 2007-08 season on Friday, November 16 (8:00 p.m.) against Catholic University at the Oki Data Americas Tip-Off Tournament hosted by Widener University.
