(NY) - Vassar College used a balanced attack that featured 13 different
players in the scoring column as the Brewers rolled to an 82-58
win over visiting Delaware Valley College.
Vassar (1-2) took command early, building a 16-8 lead with 11 minutes
remaining in the half. On the strength of a 16-of-29 (.552) shooting
effort from the field in the first half, the Brewers stayed in control
and took a 44-23 lead into the break. Delaware Valley (1-2) never
got closer than 17 points in the second stanza.
The Brewers were paced by Lawrence Avitabile who turned in a strong
all-around effort finishing with 22 points, eight rebounds, five
assists and five blocks. Avitabile was 10-of-16 from the field in
26 minutes of action. Jon Swartz added 11 points and five rebounds
off the bench while Brian Butterworth added 10 points.
Delaware Valley received 22 points, four rebounds and four assists
from senior guard Isaiah Pinckney. Junior forward Zach Van Dyke
added 13 points and seven boards in the loss.
