Navy 65, Delaware Valley 40
ANNAPOLIS (MD) - Division I Navy used a 24-3 run to break a second-half
deadlock and went on to a 65-40 victory over visiting Delaware Valley
College on Sunday.
The Aggies (3-7) battled back from an 18-point, first-half deficit
and trailed by just 10, 29-19 at the intermission. They then opened
the second stanza with a 14-4 run, capped by Zack Van Dyke's 3-pointer
with 16:35 remaining, to tie the contest at 33-33. Van Dyke and
Isaiah Pinckney had six points each in the spurt.
However, the Mids (8-3) recovered and went on their big run to
take a 57-36 lead with just under five minutes to play. At one point
in the spurt, the Aggies went more than eight minutes without scoring
and turned the ball over nine times.
Corey Johnson and Greg Sprink notched 13 points apiece to pace Navy.
The two also combined for 17 rebounds. Adam Teague 12 points and
nine rebounds for the Mids, who outrebounded Delaware Valley by
a 46-30 margin.
Pinckney led the Aggies with 21 points, including 11 of their 19
first-half points. He played 39 minutes in the game and was 8-for-20
from the field (4-for-10 from 3-point land) while also grabbing
a team-high seven rebounds. The performance also moved the senior
guard into ninth place on the school's all-time scoring list with
1,170 points.
Van Dyke added eight points and six rebounds while Jason Seipt came
off the bench to contribute six points, four rebounds and two assists
in 27 minutes of action.
