Delaware Valley College 66, King's College 63

DOYLESTOWN (PA) - Sophomore guard Jason Seipt came off the bench to score 18 points as Delaware Valley College knocked visiting King's College out of first place in the Freedom Conference with a 66-63 upset on Saturday.

The win snapped a nine-game losing streak for the Aggies as they improved to 4-15 overall and 2-6 in conference play. Meanwhile, the Monarchs saw their six-game winning streak come to an end as they fell to 12-7 and 6-2. They dropped one game behind The University of Scranton, a 65-51 winner over Drew University on Saturday, in the Freedom standings with six conference games to go.

Seipt just missed matching his career high of 19 points set earlier in the season against Lebanon Valley College. He played 28 minutes and was 6-for-9 from the field, including a 4-for-6 effort from 3-point land. The 5-foot-6 Seipt also grabbed seven rebounds and dished three assists in the game.

Seipt scored five points in an 11-2 Delaware Valley run that broke a 52-52 tie. However King's came back with a 6-2 spurt, capped by John Soboleski's layup, to make it a 64-60 ballgame with 1:40 remaining.

The Aggies' Josh Taylor hit one of two free throws with 1:15 to go, but Jamie Cousart was 2-for-2 from the line at the other end for a 65-62 Delaware Valley advantage with 1:11 remaining. The Aggies then missed the front end of a pair of one-and-one-1 opportunities at the foul line and King's Vince Scalzo was hit on the rebound of the second miss with 24.5 seconds to go. Scalzo hit the first free throw and missed the second, but the rebound went off an Aggie player and out of bounds, giving possession back to King's with 21.6 ticks left.

On King's possession, Cousart drove to just inside the foul line and pulled up for a jumper with about five seconds to go. However it was short of the rim and the Aggies were awarded possession out of bounds with 1.7 seconds remaining. Seipt was fouled with 1.1 to go and he hit his second of two free throws for a 66-63 Delaware Valley lead. Cousart took a long pass just inside the halfcourt line, but his desperation try fell short and the Aggies had the upset.

Delaware Valley shot 52.9 percent from the field in the first half as it raced out to a 44-35 advantage. Seipt scored of 11 of his points in those 20 minutes, include a trio of 3-pointers. King's battled back and scored 17 of the first 25 points in the second stanza, including seven by Vince Sobocinski, to tie the game at 52-52 with 12:34 to go. However, the Aggies regained the lead a minute later and never relinquished it again.

Isaiah Pinckney added 12 points and five assists for Delaware Valley while Eric Lawton, Josh Taylor and Ryan Thomas notched nine points apiece. Taylor tied Seipt for team-high honors in rebounds with seven.

Scalzo finished with 15 points, seven rebounds and seven assists for the Monarchs. Kofi Dwebeng also hit double digits with 12 points while Cousart and Sobocinski each added nine.
