Basketball FDU-Florham 63, Delaware
Valley 61 DOYLESTOWN (PA) - In a back-and-forth contest that
featured six ties and 11 lead changes, FDU-Florham outlasted host Delaware Valley,
63-61, in a Freedom Conference game. The Aggies (4-15, 1-8) took their last
lead of the game at 56-54 as Zack Van Dyke hit a layup with 4:13 remaining. However,
the Devils (5-15, 2-7) responded with eight straight points, including three apiece
by Matt Cushing and Brian Dillon, for a 62-56 advantage with 26 seconds to go. Pat
Lenahan's floated with 16 seconds to go kept Delaware Valley in the game and Matt
Cushing followed with just one of two free throws for FDU-Florham to leave the
game at 63-58 with 13 ticks remaining. On Delaware Valley's next trip, Ryan Walsh
hit a deep, 3-pointer with 6.7 seconds left to make it a two-point contest, and
they fouled Frankie Emslie with 4.9 seconds left. Emslie missed both free
throws, Walsh grabbed the rebound and the Aggies called timeout with a final opportunity.
Inbounding from underneath their own basket, Walsh received a pass and dribbled
to halfcourt where he was trapped by two Devil players. Walsh's desperation pass
was picked off by Emslie as the buzzer sounded and FDU-Florham escaped with the
road victory. The Devils, who held a 27-25 halftime advantage, were paced
by Cushing and Pierre Schmitt as they had 11 points apiece. James McClendon added
10 while Emslie and Brian Rimol had eight apiece. Isaiah Pinckney led all
scorers with 13 points while Maurice Slaughter notched 10 in the loss. Bill Gelsomini
had all seven of his points in the second half while Josh Taylor also finished
with seven. |
