Basketball DeSales University 71, Delaware
Valley 61 CENTER VALLEY (PA) - DeSales University used a pair
of second-half runs, en route to a 71-61 victory over visiting Delaware Valley
College in a Freedom Conference game. The Bulldogs improved to 10-4 overall and
2-3 in conference play while the Aggies fell to 4-11, 1-4. Delaware Valley
pulled to within one, 42-41, with 15:36 remaining as Pat Lenahan drilled a 3-pointer
against the team he began his collegiate career with. However, DeSales answered
with nine straight points for a 10-point edge. The Aggies fought back with
a pair of free throws by Lenahan and two baskets by Josh Taylor to make it a four-point
ballgame, but DeSales scored 13 of the next 19 points to build a 64-53 advantage
with 5:03 remaining. DeSales, which held a 38-35 lead at halftime, shot
45.9 percent from the field compared to 36.2 percent shooting by Delaware Valley.
The Bulldogs also held a 46-30 edge on the boards, including 19 at the offensive
end. Phil Stricker led the squad with 23 points and 13 rebounds. Isaiah
Pinckney paced the Aggies with 18 points while Taylor came off the bench to pour
in 10. Ryan Thomas had nine points in a reserve role while Lenahan and Maurice
Slaughter finished with eight points apiece. Slaughter led the way on the boards
with eight. |
