King's College 97, Delaware Valley 79


WILKES-BARRE (PA) - Sophomore guard Isaiah Pinckney matched a career high with 31 points for the second time this week, but it wasn't enough as Delaware Valley College dropped a 97-79, Freedom Conference contest at King's College.

Pinckney, who also scored 31 points in Monday night's 85-70 upset of Wilkes University, was 10-for-20 from the field, including a perfect 6-for-6 from 3-point land. The 2004 Freedom Conference Rookie of the Year also had a 5-for-8 showing from the foul line in 34 minutes of action.

However, King's (14-4, 5-2) shot 52.5 percent from the field, including a 19-for-31 (5.76%) effort in the first half as the Monarchs jumped out to a 57-39 lead at the intermission. Brian Horgan scored 15 of his 23 points in the first 20 minutes for King's while Pinckney had 14 in the half.

Delaware Valley (7-11, 2-6) chipped away at its deficit by shooting 56.5 percent from the field in the second stanza and pulled to within seven points on three occasions, the last coming at 5:27 as Randall Graves hit a shot to make it 80-73. The Monarchs responded with 11 straight points, including five by Vince Scalzo, to up the lead to 18.

Horgan, who also had eight rebounds, was one six King's players to reach double figures in scoring. Joining him were Scalzo (19), Landon Gabriel (16), Marty O'Hora (13), John Soboleski (12) and Thomas Moore (10).

Graves notched 14 points for the Aggies while his six assists moved the senior into sixth place on the school's all-time list with 253. Mike Zupa and A.J. Neal came off the bench to add 12 and nine points respectively.
