Delaware Valley 77, Drew University 61


MADISON (NJ) - Sophomore guards Isaiah Pinckney and Mike Zupa each notched career highs to lead the Delaware Valley College men's basketball team to a 77-61 victory at Drew University in a Freedom Conference game.

The win improved the Aggies to 5-7 overall, 1-2 in the Freedom Conference. They also surpassed their entire win total from last season (4-20). The Rangers fell to 2-12 overall and 0-3 in conference play.

Pinckney, the 2004 Freedom Conference Rookie of the Year, notched 26 points, four steals and three assists. He was 8-for-18 from the field (4-for-8 from 3-point land) and 6-for-8 from the foul line. Zupa connected on seven of 14 shots (3-for-6 from 3-point land) and was 2-for-3 from the charity stripe for 19 points.

The game was tied at 20 with 6:57 to go in the first half before Delaware Valley went on a 15-0 run to take command. Zupa and Pinckney keyed the spurt with six and five points respectively while Orlon Baker and Josh Taylor had two points apiece.

The Aggies led 38-26 at halftime and built the lead to as many as 16 on three separate occasions in the second stanza. In addition to Pinckney and Zupa, Maurice Slaughter reached double figures with 11 points while also grabbing a game-high nine rebounds.

Chris Lopez paced the Rangers with 15 points while Bob Carella and Leon Thomas added 11 and 10 points respectively.
