Lehigh University 99, Delaware Valley 61

BETHLEHEM (PA) -- The Delaware Valley College men's basketball team ended the first semester of the 2003-04 season with a 99-61 loss at Division I Lehigh University in front of 248 spectators at Stabler Arena.

The Aggies head into the holiday break with a 1-7 record and will return to action on Tuesday, January 6 (7:00 p.m.) when they travel back to Bethlehem to take on Moravian College.

Lehigh (5-3) led from start to finish, but Delaware Valley was still within six points, 23-17, with 8:08 remaining in the first half following a layup by Javon Alston. However, the Mountain Hawks went on a 20-5 run and eventually took a 48-31 lead into the intermission.

Lehigh led by as many as 39 in the contest and outrebounded the Aggies by a 56-26 margin. Four players reached double figures led by Mitch Gilfillan's 21 points.

Freshman Mike Thornton paced Delaware Valley with 20 points and six rebounds. Junior Erik Tegethoff added 16 points and five rebounds, including the team's first five points of the game. Alston, a freshman, added 10 points on 4-for-8 shooting.
