King's College 102, Delaware Valley 81

WILKES-BARRE (PA) -- Freshman guard Javon Alston scored a career-high 33 points but it wasn't enough as the Delaware Valley College men's basketball team dropped a 102-81 decision at King's College in a Freedom Conference game.

The loss dropped the Aggies to 1-5 overall and 1-1 in the conference, while the Monarchs improved to 5-1, 2-0.

Alston, who was inserted into the starting lineup earlier this week, notched the most points by a Delaware Valley men's basketball player since Tyree Jones scored 35 points in a conference win over Wilkes in 2000. Alston hit 14 of 22 shots from the field, including a 3-for-7 showing from 3-point land. He also added five steals and two assists in 30 minutes of action.

Freshman Mike Thornton made his third start of the year for the Aggies and scored a career-best 16 points in 21 minutes. He shot 5-for-10 from the field and added five rebounds before fouling out.

However, King's jumped out to a 21-9 lead and never looked back as it shot 58.1 percent from the field (36-for-62). The Monarchs placed five players in double figures, led by Brian Horgan's 26 points.
